It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, brother and husband Darrin Jay “D.J.” Marquardt. D.J. passed away peacefully in his home with loved ones by his side on April 5th, 2025. He was born on January 30, 1967, to the late Virginia and Lester Marquardt of Kingston, Michigan.
He was married on April 1, 2025, to the loving Sara Harrell, who he spent the last 30 years with. He is survived by his wife Sara Harrell of Chipley, FL; his children, Mary Long (Steven) of Bad Axe, MI, Sarah Creamer of Sand Hills, FL and Tyler Creamer of Chipley, FL; his grandchildren, Emlee, Kendra, Nickolas and Jayden who he loved very much. His brothers and sisters, David Marquardt (Nelda) of Kingston, MI, Diana Armstead (Flynn “Skeeter”) of Hernando, FL, Daniel Marquardt (Della) of Attica, MI, Deborah Marquardt of Davison, MI, Darlene Wolfe (Marty) of Lapeer, MI, Dale Marquardt (Ellen) of Kingston, MI, Durrell “Dewy” Marquardt (Laurie) of Decker, MI, Drenda Phelps ( Brian) of Kingston, MI, Darryl “Buddy” Marquardt (Evelyn) of Kingston, MI, Della James (Mark) of Kingston, MI, 20 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard “Dick” Marquardt. D.J. loved to fish, barbecuing going to the creek. He was a painter for 30 years and was always proud of his work ethic and his children. He was a man who lived life to the fullest and who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was always willing to lend a hand to others when he could.
Ecclesiastes 3 – To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven. A time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted. A time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance.
He had fond memories of feeling freedom growing up on the farm on the white creek road, he loved his mama very much and wanted family and friends to be happy that they were going to be together again. “Don’t be sad, I get to go home.”
Per his wishes cremation had taken place, and a grave side ceremony will be held in Kingston, MI this summer. In lieu of flowers memorial funds can be sent to family by mailing to Mary Long at 1200 S McMillian Rd. Bad Axe, MI 48413 or by following this link:
